Kansas Quilters

We will be hosting a very special patriotic quilt exhibit in remembrance of the 15th Anniversary of 9/11. We want to display quilts that have a patriotic theme or are made from the patriotic colors of Red, White, and Blue. Along with the quilts that will be loaned to the Stauth Museum for the exhibit, we would like to encourage southwest Kansas quilters to make quilts that will go directly from this exhibit into the Quilts of Valor program. These quilts are awarded to military service members and veterans who have been touched by war. QOVF does not provide quilts to organizations for permanent public display or to serve as bed covers for hospital beds. A Quilt of Valor is a lifetime award to say “thank you for your service, sacrifice and valor” in serving our nation. Since these quilts are meant to be lifelong heirlooms, they need to be made to certain specifications. Quilts of Valor are to reflect the best possible workmanship and use of quality materials consistent with the Foundation’s core value of “Promoting Excellence.”

If you are interested in loaning a quilt or making a quilt or quilt top for this celebration of America’s patriotism, please contact the Stauth Museum as soon as possible! If you have any questions or know of anyone who has already made a patriotic quilt that they might want to loan for this seven week exhibit, please don’t hesitate to call. By entitling the exhibit, Remembering: Quilts of Patriotism and Quilts of Valor our goal is to remember and honor these brave men and women during this exhibit by filling our gallery with amazing, Quilts of Patriotism by those quilts loaned for the exhibit and then honor them into the future by those specifically made for the Quilts of Valor Foundation by sending as many quilts as we can from southwest Kansas!
