Guidelines for the Western Kansas Art “Hang-In” 2018
On Display From June 3, 2018 to June 24, 2018
The Art “Hang-In” Concept = All artwork will be “hung” as it comes in the door. Art will be “Hung” or placed in approximate order of arrival, hence the term “Hang-In”! Three-dimensional artwork will be displayed on tables, pedestals or enclosed vitrines as they come in the door. We will have a two day “hang-in” on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 10:00 AM to NOON, 1:00 PM to 4:00PM and Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 10:00 AM to NOON, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. We will close from NOON to 1:00 PM each day so staff can have a break and go to lunch! When the exhibit space is full, no more artwork will be accepted. If the exhibit space is filled on the first day, no more artwork will be accepted on the second day. The art will then be on display for three weeks from Sunday, June 3, 2018 through Sunday, June 24, 2018.
■ All artwork will be accepted on a first-come, first-to-exhibit basis.
■ No reservations for space are required, nor will they be accepted.
■ A maximum of three works of art will be accepted per artist.
■ Artists must currently reside in western Kansas (any town west of Hays) and be at least 16 years of age to enter.
■ All artwork must be original to the artist and created within the last 5 years.
■ All artwork must be appropriate for all visitors including families & children.
■ All types of art and artists are encouraged to be a part of this exhibition. This includes, but not limited to: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, woodcarving, mosaic, mixed media, jewelry, glass art, metal art, collage, weaving & textiles, computer art, graphic design, printmaking and more.
■ All hanging art is expected to be framed and have appropriate hanging device attached to the back. Textiles must have a hanging sleeve sewn to the back. If no hanging device is attached, artwork will not be accepted. If hanging device is not sufficient to accommodate the weight of the artwork and the artwork falls off the wall, Stauth Memorial Museum is not responsible for damages done to the artwork. The exhibitor will be called to come and correct the hanging problem or the work will be taken out of the exhibition.
■ A Loan Agreement Form must be signed for all artwork to be accepted into this exhibition. Museum staff will have this form for all participants at check-in and it must be signed by the artist before any items are accepted for display. No art will be accepted into the exhibit by anyone other than the artist.
■ All artwork will be released after the exhibition closes on Sunday, June 24th at 4:30PM following the Artist’s Reception, on Monday, June 25, 2018 or no later than 4:30 PM Tuesday, June 26, 2018 during regular business hours or by special appointment. Artwork will ONLY be released to the artist and the original Loan Agreement is signed that it was released back to the artist! No exceptions. We do not have a place to store artwork.
■ Pre-registration is helpful, but not required, nor does it save you a space in the exhibit. If you would like to pre-register your three art pieces, please download the form HERE or call (620)846-2527 so we can include you in the mailing for the information packet that will be mailed closer to the exhibit. It will include information about delivery/pick-up of your art for the exhibit and a SAMPLE of the Loan Agreement for you to read prior to bringing your art to the Museum! Pre-registration is helpful to significantly speed up the check-in process!
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to talk with Stauth Memorial Museum staff or call the Director at 620-846-2527.
The exhibit will close on Sunday, June 24, 2018 with an Artist’s Reception for all of the artists who participated in the exhibition and for anyone who might want to meet them. A People’s Choice Award certificate will be give to the artwork which received the most votes from Museum visitors during the exhibition.
